BACKGROUND: Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) is a well-established biostimulatory filler approved for hand rejuvenation. Recent approaches have explored dilution with polymicronutrient (PMN) solutions to enhance cellular metabolism and extracellular matrix (ECM) regeneration. AIMS: To evaluate the biological and clinical effects of CaHA diluted in a PMN solution (CaHA + PMN) compared with the conventional CaHA diluted in saline solution (CaHA + SS) for hand rejuvenation. METHODS: An in vitro study was conducted to assess fibroblast proliferation and gene expression of ECM components (COL1A1, COL3A1, and ELN) after exposure to CaHA diluted with PMN or SS. A prospective, split-hand, double-blind clinical trial (n = 22) compared both formulations regarding Hand Grading Scale (HGS), Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS), skin hydration (corneometry), and dermal thickness (ultrasound imaging) at baseline, 15 and 90 days after treatment. RESULTS: In vitro, CaHA + PMN induced greater fibroblast proliferation and upregulated COL1A1 and ELN gene expression compared to CaHA + SS. Clinically, both treatments led to significant improvement from baseline in HGS (p < 0.001), skin hydration and dermal/hypodermal thickness, with no statistically significant differences between-group. Investigator-assessed GAIS and patient-reported satisfaction on a 5-point Likert scale also showed improvement in both groups. CONCLUSION: Both treatments demonstrated comparable clinical outcomes, suggesting that the strong biostimulating effect of CaHA may have overshadowed potential additive effects of PMN. Nonetheless, in vitro findings confirmed enhanced biological activity with CaHA + PMN, supporting its investigation as a complementary strategy in future studies. © 2026 The Author(s). OBJECTIVE: The current study aims to investigate the safety and efficacy of using calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) versus CaHA associated with hyaluronic acid (HA) for forehead volume replacement and contour restoration without forehead irregularities. METHODS: This interventional study involved 132 participants in a two-arm, parallel, double-blind trial for forehead treatment using the supraperiosteal technique. Group A received CaHA, and Group B received a combination of CaHA and HA as filler materials. Follow-up assessments occurred at 30 and 180 days, incorporating the 5-point Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) and photographic analysis for forehead volume replacement, contour restoration, and without forehead irregularities. Safety assessments included monitoring adverse events, particularly nodules. RESULTS: The study included all 132 enrolled patients who completed the trial. Applying CaHA in combination with HA resulted in a statistically significant improvement in both GAIS scale scores and the reduction of forehead irregularities. The total incidence of nodules was 3.7%. Group A had four times more occurrences of nodules than Group B. Furthermore, Group B exhibited lower rates of forehead irregularities following the treatment compared to Group A. CONCLUSION: The supraperiosteal application of CaHA and HA for forehead treatment demonstrates superior efficacy in addressing signs of aging compared to the isolated use of CaHA. © 2024 The Author(s). BACKGROUND: Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA)-carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)+ has unique properties that make it optimal for lifting, contouring, and defining the jawline. This long-term follow-up of a randomized, multicenter, rater-blinded trial reports efficacy and safety of CaHA-CMC(+) through 48 and up to 60 weeks post-treatment. METHODS: Eligible patients were randomized (2:1) to the treatment or the control/delayed treatment group to receive CaHA-CMC(+) injections in both jawlines. While touch-ups were permitted 4 weeks post-treatment for both groups, only the treatment group was eligible for optional retreatment after 48 weeks. The primary outcome was ≥1-point improvement on both jawlines on the Merz Jawline Assessment Scale (MJAS); secondary endpoints included the Subject Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (SGAIS) among others. Post hoc analysis included pooling up to 48-week data from the combined treatment and control/delayed groups and 60-week data for the treatment group. RESULTS: Overall, 175 received treatment. MJAS responder rates were 77.9%, 78.7%, and 62.9% at 12, 24, and 48 weeks post-treatment, respectively. Responder rate on the MJAS at 60 weeks was 74.6% for those who received retreatment and 43.5% for those patients who received only the initial and touchup treatments. SGAIS scores demonstrated 93.4%, 85.6%, and 68.5% of patients rated themselves very much improved after 12, 24, and 48 weeks, respectively. Adverse events consisted of procedure or CaHA-CMC(+)-related events that were mostly resolved and overwhelmingly mild. CONCLUSIONS: CaHA-CMC(+) produced clinically meaningful and long-lasting improvements in jawline contour and was well tolerated in patients through 60 weeks. INTRODUCTION: Hand aging is a prevalent concern characterized by the atrophy of local soft tissues and increased visibility of vessels and tendons. Hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) are well-established treatments for addressing this issue. While hybrid filler containing HA and CaHA has been proposed for facial rejuvenation, studies investigating its efficacy for hand rejuvenation are lacking. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the safety and efficacy of a premixed hybrid filler containing calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) and hyaluronic acid (HA) for hand rejuvenation. METHODS: A prospective, double-blind, controlled trial was conducted. The control arm (CA) received conventional subdermal treatment with CaHA at a 1:1 dilution. The intervention arm (IA) underwent hybrid treatment, consisting of CaHA at a 1:1 dilution combined with 1 ml of low-density HA. Evaluation was performed subjectively using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) and the Manchester Hand Grading System (MHGS), and objectively using cutometry, corneometry, and ultrasound. RESULTS: Both the CA and the IA exhibited high rates of patient satisfaction and satisfaction as assessed by blinded evaluators. Although numerical superiority was observed in the IA, no statistical difference was found between the two groups. Significant improvements in hydration, elasticity, and skin thickness were observed in both arms, with no discernible difference between them. Greater ultrasound echogenicity was noted in the IA, which, as indicated by existing literature, may suggest enhanced biostimulation. No adverse effects were reported in either arm. CONCLUSION: Premixed filler containing HA and CaHA for hand rejuvenation appears to be a safe and effective approach. PURPOSE: The study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of treating atrophied labia majora with hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA). METHODS: Ten participants complaining of sagging or loss of volume in the labia majora were evaluated and randomly assigned to two groups-treated with CaHA or AH. Photographic documentation was taken and appreciated by the participants and by blind observers. RESULTS: The study showed an improvement in labia majora regarding volumization and flaccidity that was more significant after 90 days of treatment in both treatments. Besides flaccidity, volume replacement resulted in better balance and proportion between the labia majora and labia minora. The evaluators, independent and blind, judged that in 80% of the cases of the HA group and in 50% of cases of the CaHA group, there was an excellent improvement. CONCLUSION: CaHA and HA are both effective and safe for treating the intimate region, and this study cannot prove the superiority of one over the other. An appropriate assessment involving the analysis of sagging and/or volume loss and the creation of a sequential treatment protocol, involving CaHA and HA, seems to be the best solution. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this in vitro study was to compare two 5% sodium fluoride varnishes, each containing different sources of calcium and phosphate, for their ability to deliver fluoride into treated sound tooth enamel and adjacent, but untreated demineralized enamel. METHODS: Six sets of 12 bovine enamel cores were mounted in plexiglass rods and the exposed surfaces were polished. Synthetic lesions were formed in the surface of three sets by soaking in thickened, pH 5.0, 1M lactic acid, 50% saturated with calcium hydroxyapatite. A fluoride varnish containing tri-calcium phosphate (TCP) was applied to one set of sound enamel cores, and a second, delivering amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP), was applied to another. A third set of sound enamel cores was water-treated. Each treated sound core was paired with an untreated lesioned core, and the pairs were soaked in artificial saliva for 24 hours at 37 degrees C. The treated cores, but not their lesioned counterparts, were initially soaked in 1.0 N KOH saturated with calcium phosphate for 18 hours. Each core was separately etched with 1.0 N perchloric acid for exactly 15 seconds, and fluoride measured by an ion-sensitive electrode after neutralizing with NaOH and buffering in TISAB II. The amount of calcium extracted was also determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry as a measure of etch depth. RESULTS: Fluoride uptake average was 1677 +/- 193 ppm, 455 + 38 ppm, and 44 +/- 5 ppm for the sound enamel cores treated with ACP varnish, TCP varnish, and water treatment, respectively. Fluoride uptake into the demineralized enamel averaged 5567 +/- 460 ppm, 2126 +/-126 ppm, and 49 -/+ 4 ppm for demineralized enamel paired with the sound cores treated with ACP varnish, TCP varnish, and water, respectively. The differences between the ACP varnish, the TCP varnish, and the water treatments were statistically significant (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The ACP varnish formulation delivers statistically significantly more fluoride to both intact and demineralized enamel than the formulation containing TCP.

BACKGROUND: Collagen biostimulators, such as poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), are widely used in facial esthetic treatments to improve skin quality, restore volume, and stimulate neocollagenesis. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy, durability, and safety of PLLA- and CaHA-based collagen biostimulators in facial esthetic treatments. METHODS: A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The PICO strategy guided the research question. Searches were performed in April 2024 in the BVS, Medline (via PubMed), and Scopus databases, using standardized descriptors and Boolean operators. Studies published between 2010 and 2024, available in full text in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, were included. Screening was conducted using the Rayyan platform, and the quality of included studies was assessed with the ROB2 tool. RESULTS: Fourteen studies met the eligibility criteria. Both PLLA and CaHA demonstrated significant improvements in skin elasticity, wrinkle reduction, and increased facial volume. PLLA maintained its effects for up to 25 months, while CaHA offered results lasting 12 to 18 months. The most frequent adverse effects were mild, including pain and swelling at the injection site. One serious case of compression necrosis was reported with CaHA. CONCLUSION: Both PLLA and CaHA are effective and safe biostimulators for facial rejuvenation. However, further research is needed to standardize techniques and assess long-term safety. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE I: This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. 63. Aesthet Surg J. 2025 Nov 17;45(12):1278-1284. doi: 10.1093/asj/sjaf142. Biostimulants in Aesthetic Medicine: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Efficacy, Safety, and Patient Satisfaction. Smith L, Rahmati M, Pizzol D, López-Sánchez GF, Boyer L, Fond G, Tran BX, Gawronska J, Yon DK, Ravindran R. Biostimulants, including calcium hydroxyapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, and polycaprolactone, have become popular in aesthetic medicine as they lead to long-term tissue rejuvenation. However, their efficacy (eg, dermal, volume, and anatomic outcomes), patient satisfaction, and safety remain unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis collates and appraises the available data on biostimulants, examining their efficacy, adverse events, and patient satisfaction. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed/Medline (National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, MD), Scopus (Elsevier, Amsterdam, the Netherlands), Embase (Elsevier), and Web of Science (Clarivate, Philadelpha, PA), up to January 14, 2025. Studies were included that assessed the effects of biostimulants on efficacy, adverse events, and patient satisfaction in observational studies. Meta-analyses using random-effects models were performed on individual proportions and applied to 7 outcomes (satisfaction, bruising, ecchymosis, edema, erythema, nodule development, pain). A total of 197 articles were screened, and 25 studies were included in the systematic review. The results of meta-analyses indicate that the pooled satisfaction rate of biostimulants was estimated to be 91% (95% CI, 67%-98%; I2 = 87.3%), with the following adverse event rates: bruising, 27% (95% CI, 12%-50%; I2 = 96%); ecchymosis, 22% (95% CI, 11%-40%; I2 = 95.5%); edema, 5% (95% CI, 1%-18%; I2 = 93.6%); erythema, 16% (95% CI, 4%-47%; I2 = 94.3%); nodule development, 5% (95% CI, 2%-10%; I2 = 85.5%); pain, 92% (95% CI, 63%-99%; I2 = 87.7%). Among studies not included in the meta-analysis, all parameters studied showed significant improvements in terms of dermal, volume, anatomic, and satisfaction outcomes. Biostimulants demonstrate clinical promise and a favorable tolerability profile in aesthetic medicine despite the common occurrence of

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of various alloplastic facial implants in correcting facial defects based on post-operative complications and failure rates in patients who underwent facial skeletal augmentation. METHOD: A comprehensive search for articles reporting relevant articles was using Google Scholar and PubMed databases. Data from publications that satisfied the predefined inclusion criteria were synthesized and analyzed using OpenMeta [Analyst] software. RESULTS: A total of 48 studies with a population size of 3701 patients who received 4139 alloplastic facial implants were included in this analysis. The complication rate was 10.7% (95% confidence intervals [CI] [8.3%, 13.2%], and I2 =89.35%). Paranasal implants had the highest rate of complications of 15.1% (95% CI [7.8%, 22.3%], and malar implants had the lowest complication rate of 7.4% (95% CI 3.8%, 11.1%]) I2 = 72.62%). In 15 studies that had malar implants, 853/1788 (45.8%) of the patients received malar implants (95% CI [0.356, 0.561]). In 8 studies that included mandibular implants, 265 (56%) of 508 patients received mandibular implants (95% CI [0.474, 0.645]); in 11 studies, 371/489 (76.1%) received nasal or paranasal implants (95% CI of [0.565, 0.912]), while in 3 studies, 14/15 (85.5%) received frontal implant (95% CI of [0.645, 0.997]). In 17 studies that investigated the use of chin implants, 1366/1366 (100%) of the eligible patients received chin implants (95% CI [0.995, 1.000], I2 = 0%). The complication rate was 2.78% for silicone, 1.02% for calcium hydroxyapatite, and 2.48 for Medpor. CONCLUSION: Alloplastic facial implants are a viable alternative to enhancing facial beauty and performing facial skeletal augmentation with a relatively lower risk of complications associated with all facial implants. BACKGROUND: For patients looking for temporary results or who do not want surgery, nonsurgical rhinoplasty using filler injections has become increasingly popular. Filler materials and surgical techniques have improved in recent years, but serious complications remain. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review is to summarize the common types of fillers and injection techniques, complications, and treatment to help clinicians perform in a safer and more effective way. METHODS: A systematic review was performed using keywords and Medical Subject Headings search terms. PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched using the appropriate search terms. Data collected from each study included injection materials, location, technique, patient satisfaction and complications, and treatment. RESULTS: From the 1812 studies identified, 30 were included in the systematic review. A total of 9657 patients underwent nonsurgical rhinoplasty, most commonly with hyaluronic acid (HA) (96.76%), followed by calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) (1.22%). Overall satisfaction was 99.08%. The overall incidence of complications was 39.11%, with the highest incidence of erythema and swelling (27.95%). Most of the complications are mild, but there are still 0.27% of the patients who have undergone severe complication-an arterial occlusion. CONCLUSIONS: Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is an effective and relatively safe option for improving the profile of the nose, with a short operative time and high patient satisfaction. Most of the complications were mild, but still serious vascular complications such as blindness, skin necrosis, and stroke were as high as 0.27%. A thorough understanding of the anatomy of the nasal vessels and a precise surgical technique is an important basis for prevention. A BULLET POINT LIST: (1) We summarize the common types of fillers and injection techniques, complications, and treatment of complications to guide physicians to perform nonsurgical rhinoplasty in a safer and more effective manner. (2) Out of 1812 studies through the search strategy, 30 articles were included in the systematic review. A total of 9657 patients underwent nonsurgical rhinoplasty. (3) Nonsur
